I am incredibly talented at talking all the way around what it is that I really need to speak about, and Stephen was able to keep me focused and gently challenge when necessary. 'I found the tying of theory to change really helpful; it provided a framework within which I could understand my experiences and envision the changes I wanted to make. I found your manner very supportive; you created a space that felt very safe and encouraging; I felt I could be entirely open and honest which gave me confidence.
I liked it that when I said something you would often pause to think about what I said. This helped me to feel that you were listening carefully and not rushing to respond without thinking about what I had said. Your responses were considered and helpful and showed that you had processed what I had said.
I enjoyed that I was able to direct the therapy to quite a large extent and that you guided me through that. I would imagine there might be clients who would need more leading from you but for me, this meant that I had ownership of the therapy and felt empowered.
Thank you for your flexibility around the timing of sessions, this was a big help. As I said, these sessions have been enormously beneficial, and I am certain I will continue to benefit from the work we have done together.'
